This has been a family favorite since I was a child! I love the family style format because I am able to try different dishes. We always make sure to add the honey walnut shrimp and the egg with shrimp to our order. In addition to eating here with family, it's also a great spot to get together with company workers for lunch or dinner. The service is always pretty quick and you can expect fortune cookies at the end of your meal. Would definitely recommend!
I love this place one of our go to! Food is so homey and clean. Will always have a good eat here:)
If you're in the area this is the best Chinese Food / Restaurant in town. You will not be disappointed. Service is on point food is on point beyond amazing. I highly suggest you call and RSVP because this place sure gets packed. It's party and a feast when you come but the atmosphere is amazing.
If you are missing Panda Inn in Pasadena while is under construction we found this gem in south Pasadena. I haven't been here for decades as I always forget about it. But it is delish and has the best lunch specials that include hot and sour soup and rice. Always bustling with regulars - dinner is a great Cantonese ala cart Chinese menu which has everything from Peking duck to all your normal favorites. Really friendly service too!
Decent Chinese food in the South Pasadena area that has good value lunch specials and an extensive menu with over 200 dishes to choose from. My go-to's are the kung pao chicken, sizzling beef fillet with black pepper, Singapore fried noodle, honey walnut shrimp, shrimp fried rice and the deep fried bean curd. The beef is very tender and seasoned with just the right amount of black pepper, though I'm not a fan of the vegetables being added raw. I like the turmeric flavor from the curry in the Singapore fried noodle, but the pork bits are dry. The deep fried bean curd is really impressive because the tofu is so soft inside yet they were able to make the fried layer so crispy. I'd skip the mapo tofu as I thought it was very bland, nor was it very spicy. If you go during lunch time, some of the dishes like the beef fillet with black pepper and shrimp with asparagus are not only smaller, but contain a lot of fillers. Sure, if you going during dinner time it's more expensive, but you'll get a lot more meat than vegetables. It gets busy here during the weekends and the waiters may try to rush you to order without giving you adequate time to really read the menu, so it's better to come in knowing exactly what you want. None of the tables have Lazy Susans, so it can be cumbersome to move all the dishes around especially if you're in a large party, because in Chinese restaurants you have to share a lot of the dishes.
We used to dine here long ago with friends. They're no longer in our lives, and I was craving for some good Chinese food and decided to come out here. I got here late and missed out on their lunch specials. I still came and had lunch/dinner. It was exactly how I had remembered. Their ambiance is always nice and clean. Service and foods are always tops!! Everything was on point with flavors and service was excellent. The servers made sure everything was OK. I love this place!! I had a fabulous meal. Thanks Oak Tree Inn team!!
One of our favorite restaurants. Old school Chinese restaurant has long been a local institution with its extensive menu, delicious entrees, efficient service and easy parking. It's popular with families during the dinner hours so you may have to wait a bit. But it's worth it.
I've been coming here for more than 20 years with my family. So this has a special place in my heart. Most people go here for their reasonably priced lunch specials range from 13-16$ that comes with a side of rice and a cup of hot and sour soup. They also have live seafood that are in tanks in front of the restaurant and you can pick from. Their seafood varies depending on market price. Restaurant: It's spacious and plenty of seating. Lunch time is the most popular time it's from 11a-3p. The restaurant has been repainted during the past 3-4 years. Staff & Service. The staff are friendly and there's always plenty of them around and attends to your needs quite fast. Food: They serve dishes ranging from stir fried dishes , soup bowls, Peking duck, fresh seafood depending on market price for that day and good veggies options. Some of my favorite dishes are ginger beef green onions, pepper steak, the fried flounder fish with soy sauce, and braised strong beans. FYI the food can come out salty I usually say not too much msg or light on the msg. Other than that it's one of the best Chinese dine in at South Pasadena. Parking: They have adequate parking that's in a shared plaza. I usually don't have trouble finding a space but in keep in mind lunch time tends to get busy if you have issues with parking you can park on the street. Final thought: I would highly recommend them and give them a shot on a Sunday afternoon with the family.
It's been a bit since we've ventured here for lunch, which is a terrific special at $12.75 each with an individual heaping bowl of rice (white or brown with no cost difference), complimentary hot 'n sour soup (not vegetarian), hot tea, and the most delicious vanilla - coated fortune cookie. Generous portions, delicately cooked with veggies still crunchy, and kindest staff to a one each and every time. Husband & Wife owners uphold a standard of genuine kindness and most thorough and prompt service, yet never pushy. We feel like part of their family here, which truly adds to the overall enjoyment of your meal! What else can you ask for? Oak Tree Inn exudes our wishes for an excellent dining experience!!
This restaurant is a classic and standby in the neighborhood. I occasionally run into people I know there. Everything on the menu is tasty, to the point where you can close your eyes and point to a dish. Each dish tastes unique on the extensive menu. Their lunch specials are a great deal with generous servings. They handle takeout efficiently and with very good service. Some of my standby orders are the double mushroom chicken, walnut shrimp and Kung Pao anything, always with a side of the Roasted chili sauce.
